Samsung OLED monitors in 2009

It looks like there will be more to choose from in OLED TVs next year. Samsung SDI says that by 2009, not only will it have OLED panels for larger TVs, but also for monitors and notebook displays, according to a report in Digitimes.

The report quotes Samsung SDI's VP of mobile display marketing, Woo-Jong Lee, who says that Samsung SDI will be able to produce 3 million panels in 2009, which is double what they can crank out now. Lee said the company anticipates doubling its capacity again by the close of 2010.

The liquid crystal display (LCD) industry probably doesn't have much to worry about yet. OLED panels are incredibly expensive to produce right now, and, yes, they're awfully pretty. (Sony's 11-inch display achieves a 1 million-to-1 contrast ratio, which is by far the best available for a TV.) But even as production increases from one manufacturer, it doesn't necessarily mean the prices will drop down to where flat panels have sunk. The 11-inch OLED TV from Sony costs $2,500. For that price you could also get a 50-inch Pioneer Kuro, generally regarded as the best plasma TV on the market.

1. Go to 'Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Scheduled Tasks'
2. Click on the "Add Scheduled Task' icon
3. Click on the 'Next 'button and select a program to schedule
4. Click 'Next' then select the 'Daily' radio button
5. Click 'Next' until you rach the last screen then select the 'Open Advanced Properties For This Task When I click Finish' check box and then click on the 'Finish' button
6. Click on the 'Settings' tab near the top of the new dialog box
7. In the Idle Time section, select the "Only start the task if the computer has been idle for at least' check box
8. Select how long you want your computer to be idle before starting the scheduled task
9. Click 'Apply' then OK

From now on, Windows will run the scheduled task when your computer is idle for the specified time you chose. However, Windows could run the scheduled task numerous times a day, depending on how many times your computer goes into idle mode.

Remove Items from the Add/Remove list

If you share your computer with other people in your house and they have a habit of uninstalling programs from the Add/Remove list, or you don't want them seeing what is installed on your computer, you can take out any program from the list without actually uninstalling it. Backing Up your Hard Drive

When backing up your hard drive, I recommend you to backup your entire computer as this is more convenient and you will not have to reinstall all your programs and then change all the settings back to the way you had them. When doing a full backup, you should clean out your computer first (Temp folder, Temporary Internet files, ect.) as all these files will just make the backup file larger than it needs to be.
The steps below will guide you through a full system backup and restore for your operating system.
Note: This procedure works with Windows Me/XP.

Backing Up Your Hard Drive:

1. Click on the Start button and navigate to
'Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Backup'
2. Click on the Next button.
3. Select 'Back Up Files And Settings', then click Next.
4. Select 'Let Me Choose What To Back Up', then click Next.
5. Select the files/folders you want to back up and click on Next.
Note: Selecting 'System State' under My Computer will back up all system files
needed to do a recovery
Note: Be sure not to exceed the size limit of your removable media disk (i.e. 700-800 megabytes for a CD-R)
6. Choose a location and name for the backup and click Next.
7. Click Finish to start the backup.

Restoring your hard drive from a backup:

If you computer does not start, but will boot up in safe mode, follow these steps.
1. Start your computer and press the F8 key when the 'Please Select Your Operating System' message appears or right before the the Welcome screen appears.
2. Highlight the 'Safe Mode' option then press Enter.
3. Click on the Start button and navigate to
'Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Backup'.
4. Insert the removable media disk that contains your backup.

7. Select the appropiate backup and items to restore then click Next.

The first way is to create an inf file. First you must find the icon you want to use then the icon's index number. Nokia has just informed everyone of the success its 4G real-world test achieved, also known as “long-term evolution” (LTE) wireless technology. This test was run in an urban environment on the 2.6GHz spectrum, and managed to hit a maximum download speed of 173Mbps - doing better than what previous results from more controlled trials brought about. That’s a whole lot of throughput by any measure, with the 3G Partnership Project (3GPP) of which Nokia is a part of has already started to tout the results as the green light that LTE is capable of providing the combination of bandwidth, range, scalability, and low-power that users look forward to from a 4G service.

This 173Mbps figure came about with Nokia installing a prototype base station for ongoing LTE tests at the very top of the Heinrich Hertz Institute building in the center of Berlin, a place where there is plenty of interference which logically degrades bandwidth. This test (a first of its kind to boot) boasted different users connected to the new base station, so you can expect that the 173Mbps throughput number to somewhat resemble real world peak. In addition, the LTE throughput was tested by Nokia by placing terminals in vehicles and driving them up to 1km away from the base station with encouraging results.

According to Nokia’s Matthias Reiss, “We can demonstrate that LTE meets the high expectations set for this new technology. Most importantly, we now have evidence that future LTE networks can run on existing base station sites and mobile operators can build LTE networks without requiring new antenna sites.” Guess mobile devices with Internet connections are now the norm, so the future will be anything but bleak. Bear in mind though that LTE won’t roll out anytime soon despite looking faster than WiMAX on paper as it will probably see a 2010 commercial rollout as compared to WiMAX’s 2008 timeframe.

Suppose you want to lock the folder games in d: which has the path D:\Games. In the same drive create a text file and type

Now save this text file as loc.bat

Create another text file and type in it
ren games.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} games
Now save this text file as key.bat

Now you can see two batch files loc and key. Press loc and the folder named games will change to control panel and you will not be able to view its contents. Press key and you will get back your original folder.

Speed Up the Start Menu

The default speed of the Start Menu is pretty slow, but you can fix that by editing a Registry Key. Fire up the Registry Editor and navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop \ MenuShowDelay

By default, the value is 400. Change this to a smaller value, such as 0, to speed it up.

If this doesn't work for some reason, then you might try the following: Navigate to Display Properties then Appearance then Effects and turn off the option titled Show menu shadow.

You will get much better overall performance.

Change Yahoo Messenger Title Bar

The USB Heating Gloves seem to be really nice and cute at first sight. Have a look: warm fluffy woollen gloves of different colors that really warm up your hands and let you operate your fingers without any discomfort. Sounds fantastic, isn't?

But, unfortunately, these are just first emotions. The gloves warm up your hands while connected to the PC via USB. So, you are totally chained to your working place. While typing, playing or working on your computer I don't think that your fingers will get frozen. Then, if you work in a cold office or room you will also need warm clothes, maybe a fur-cap, USB warming slippers, etc. In that case just USB Heating Gloves won't save the situation.

Anyway, the design of the gloves is really cute. There are 2 design versions: a man and a woman version. It was well-thought that cut finger design gives the possibility to move your fingers. But here arises a question: if your fingers are bare, and the palms are in warmth, is it enough? Actually our palms freeze so rarely, but fingers always really need some warmth.

But the maximum temperature impresses - it is up to 53 degrees.
All in all, if you find this gadget useful for yourself - that will be great! Maybe the gloves will be very relevant for a kid that spends much time playing computer games in a cold room. But it can be also given as a funny gift, play a joke on your friends!

Creating a Shutdown/Reboot Icon

Windows XP has a program called SHUTDOWN.EXE which allows you to easily create icons to shutdown or restart your computer.

To create a shutdown shortcut on the desktop:

1. Right click on an open area of the desktop
2. Select New / Shortcut
3. Enter in "shutdown -s -t 00" - no quotes
4. Press the Next button
5. For the name, enter in anything you like. I just use shutdown. Click on the Finish button.

For a reboot icon, enter "shutdown -r -t 00"

Thats it!
Use this icon to easily shut down/reboot your windows with a click of a button.

Modify the Size of Icons on the Desktop

As you may be aware, you can change the size of icons in Explorer by selecting the Large icon/Small icon from the view menu. You can actually make the icons even bigger!

1. Start the Registry editor (start>run>type 'regedit')
2. Move to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics
3. Double click on "Shell Icon Size"
4. Modify to the size you want (increase by 16), e.g. 48 or 64. Click OK
5. Close the registry editor

If large icons are selected in Explorer you will now see the new size, you don't need to logoff, just change folders.

It's also possible to change the icons for the small icon/start menu.

1. Start the Registry editor.
2. Move to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics
3. Right Click in the windows and select New - String
4. Name it "Shell Small Icon Size".
5. Double click the new value and set to the size you want, its 16 by default, but again could be 32,48,64 etc.

Logoff and on again for the change to take effect.

To change the number of colours the icons use perform the following:

1. Start the Registry editor.
2. Move to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics
3. Double click on "Shell Icon BPP".
4. Modify to 4 for 16 colours, 8 for 256, 16 for 65536, 24 for 16 miillion and 32 for true colour
5. Close the registry editor

Again you need to logoff for the change to take effect.
